UPDATE: Authorities have now released the name of the deceased student. He is identified as Joshua Keshun Smith, a senior Engineering Physics major from Sparkman, Arkansas. Another unidentified student was taken to Magnolia General Hospital, listed in stable condition.

A shooting occurred in the Reynolds Center parking lot at Southern Arkansas University early on Tuesday morning, August 11th. At this time, the University Police Department has secured the scene. The incident is under investigation, but we know one student was killed and another injured. We ask for your prayers for the families involved, and for our entire campus community. All necessary steps have been taken to secure the campus. Classes and late registration will continue as scheduled today.
